ComboFix should only be run in Safe Mode when not possible to run normal mode.

You can set Windows to notify you of Updates so that you can choose, but only do this if you believe you are able to understand which ones are needed. I've encountered nasty toolbars like this in the past, and oftentimes the only sure-fire way to fix it was to just wipe the browser and start over. Please follow the instructions posted by Jonvee above and let us know how it comes.
Is there any thing I can do to get this virus off. I followed all the steps on the Preparation guide page and did scan with FRST64. SmartScreen has been part of Internet Explorer but is now plumbed into Windows 8. navigate to this website Frequently, but not always, when I click on a link in a Google search result, it takes me to a page advertising something instead of going to the page indicated.

TDSSKiller finds rootkits. Otherwise, I think it's just a bug or something software-related. Firewalls are extremely important and are the first part of your computer's defense. The boot into normal mode and run the tools described above one-by-one to make sure everything is clean.
