I have re-installed audio drivers from my mobo ASUS VIII HERO. I just had to learn the windows 10 version of doing it. In my defence I couldn't see easily as the damn sound button has disappeared from my tray and I sure as hell didn't mute it! so the speakers deff work.

Many, many thanks. Restart Audio Services did it for me. I have the same issue on a HP ProBook. If you got the "you will need to restart" message, Windows helpfully offers to restart right away.
